The development of mass media including satellite, television, and the Internet enables individuals to observe other cultural systems more easily.This ;in fact, has persuaded many to copy other people’s lifestyles.

Adopting others’ cultural elements (rites and rituals) into one’s daily routine and customs is a subconscious act. First, an emotional and consumer-based behavior takes place. Next, rationalization and criticism of how a cultural element becomes integrated into a society, occur and eventually society accepts it as a cultural phenomenon. The acceptance of birthday theme basically has gone through the same process.
