Gazes – In the Mood For Love

Gazes
Asian Film Archive approached Knuckles and Notch, a risography studio to help organise and celebrate Wong Kar Wai's Restrospective with artists' interpretation of his beautiful films.

This was such a great honour and opportunity. I have heard of the man's great works as friends raved about them however I never got the chance to watch them until now.

The film I was assigned to is
In the Mood For Love
All images belong to Wong Kar Wai
The way it’s filmed, the set styling, and the actors and actresses. The film is hauntingly beautiful, sad and romantic — Shigeru Umebayashi’s Yumeji’s Theme and Nat King Cole’s Aquellos Ojos Verdes are just playing in my mind whenever I think of the film.

The set styling is 100/100, I am so in love with the styling and the subtle details. There is a scene in the male lead’s apartment where there is a still life set up of a bowl of apples juxtaposed against a small painting of apples — love these little details…

The chemistry between the 2 actors is perfect. You are really drawn into their story and sadness.
As the title suggest, I am inspired by the long gazes they often have. Gazing afar into the distance, deep in thoughts of the time they share together and all the emotions and feelings they share in those different beautiful settings.

If you are looking to buy the A2 risography print with an edition of 60,
feel free to message me!

Cheers!
