This project was based on the musical called 'The Drowsy Chaperone'.

"The story of The Drowsy Chaperone is told from the perspective of a single man, called "The Man in Chair", who is a huge fan of the musicals of the Jazz Age. He tells the story as if he is sharing the plot of a favorite musical with the audience, interjecting little morsels of his own life as he does so. The Drowsy Chaperone has been described as a musical within a comedy".

During this project we worked alongside the musical theatre students to design and produce outfits for each character that could then be used in their actual performances  of the play. My character was 'Drowsy':

"The Drowsy Chaperone: (40s-50s) Janet’s alcoholic confidante. Care-free, often because she is drunk. An experienced “woman of the world” who couldn’t care less what the world thinks. A melodramatic diva to be reckoned with who gleefully chews the scenery and steals just about every scene she is in. Great comedic role."

There were several outfits for this character but I was working on the wedding scene, so this required me to design and produce a wedding dress in the style of 1920's. I did some research on 1920's clothing and wedding dresses, which inspired me when I came to the designing stage. I went with the drop waist style of dress, as this was a popular design within the 1920's era.
