The carnal self always wants. It wants to be admired, praised worshipped even. But all it will do is make you more obsessed with you and nothing else. You will begin to lose the beautiful attributes of compassion, empathy, sympathy, love and respect, all of which were bestowed upon you by the grace of the One and Only.
