tango study (observation + cartoon style)

- A Tango Study -
TIME: 1 hour (20 min each)
MEDIUM: colored pencil on paper

This study was based on photograph of tango dancers. The goal of the exercice was to breathe life and a sense of movement in those motionless picture. Of course, it was still a very good way of working on my observation skills, even though it was based on photographs.

TIME: 30 min
MEDIUM: white coloured pencil on black paper
TIME: about 2 hours
MEDIUM: coloured pencil and criterium on paper

The last exercice of this study was to redraw one of the poses in a different style to work on stylisation. This drawing took me a little more time because I couldn't get it right the first time so instead of keeping on struggling, I decided to start over. At the end, I found the contrast between the two noteworthy, in the way the bodies arch more in the second to emphasis on the pose. We can clearly see in the first one how the two characters seem out of proportion and stiff while the movement appears much smoother and natural in the second.
