Inner growth my be interpreted in several ways.
A client contacted me to illustrate a few pieces for a crowdfunded RPG magazine about extreme climbing and cave exploration by Sam Sorensen - and this is the second artwork I've had an opportunity to prepare for this project.
Most of us can only imagine the feelings one may experience while being left stranded, especially while trapped in a place that suppresses movement.
The initial idea was to convey the term 'descent' & being left in a place far below the surface with an inability to get out. Further in the process the direction leaned towards the latter - hence the second thumbnail sketch.
Since the zine is supposed to have a fixed, limited color palette - the illustration got vectorized and adjusted for printing purposes:
