Campus chapel in Detroit

The project of a student chapel was made during a student exchange in Univeristy of Detroit Mercy. Designed building is located in UDM campus in Detroit. The location and the shape of the building are formed by two lines. First one is a continuation of existing path and second, perpendicular, which is going through the center of the building.
The line perpendicular to the main axis creates a slot which is going through front facade and continuing on ceiling and back facade. This line shows most importan direction in the chapel and also leads person who is coming inside.
To create vertical dominant and to make the shape of the building more interesting and standing out from old campus buildings, some corners were moved up and other down.
Most functions, as worship space, chancel, baptistery, sacristy or toilets, are located on the ground floor. Basment floor contains technical rooms. To get better acustics choir is on the second floor open to the worship space.
