HANDLOOM PROJECT | 2019 | NIFT

The  swatches were hand woven- taking inspiration from the brand Pero. The brand works with weavers all over India, the most important centres being Chanderi, Maheshwar, West Bengal, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, and the ‘gamcha’ weavers from Assam. Pero takes inspiration from what surrounds it to make a product that connects with people across the world and is unique. The samples were made from a combination of cotton (2/20s), wool, raw silk, linen and jute. They were made using a plain-weave graph and extra weft technique and follow the concept of checks and stripes, inspired from ‘gamchas’. Colours for two of the collections are taken from pre-existing colours used by in brand's S/S’19 trend board. The pero home collection takes inspiraion from the bohemian decor of Pero studio. The checks takes inspiration from the existing checks and patterns and are used to make ulholstery , cushion and moodha covers for seating purpose. The ‘pero picnic’ offers woven structures for tableware and durries : table mats , table covers and durries
