Northeastern University’s Matthews Arena is the world’s oldest multi-purpose athletic building still in use. During a structural renovation, a steel reinforcement grid was installed on the rear exterior of the building, visible from a nearby pedestrian footbridge.
We developed a design that uses the existing steel grid for structural support, while increasing the quality of the campus environment. Our mission was to design for engagement and entertainment, and embrace the university's brand and identity.
