Mountain settlement

The settlement Brízgalky belongs to the village Nová Bystrica. It is a piece of untouched nature far in the mountains. A couple of old wooden houses in the meadow remind us of how our grandparents and great-grandparents lived.
Aside from the beautiful, picturesque view, this site also has other point of interest. The habitation, or buildings, which today are mostly kept as weekend cottages or failling into ruin, ere originally seadonal agricultutal buildings.
The cabins were used mainly in the summer months for agricultural activities and for grazing livestock. Later they began to be inhabited, mainly due to lack of space in the village.
The buildings gradually lost their original importance in the second half of the 20th century and then took on new purposes. They came into recreational use by people from the village as well from outside.
In the 1980s seven of the existing cabins became a place of refuge from the previous regime for many dissidents and signatories of Charter 77. These dissidents collectively repaired the cabins and met in them every year in the spirit of friendship, beyond the reach of the state security services.
