Description: After a long while, I finally got time to do this short animation involving a prop and a jump. I decided to use the amazing copyright-free rig "Morpheus" done by Josh Burton(www.joshburton.com).
The animation was part of my class assignment at Maya Academy where I was asked to animate a 'boomerang throw'. So this is what I came up with. This work is also my first attempt at actual animation apart from the traditional walk cycles and bouncing balls.
For the animation, I took a reference from Youtube on 'how to throw a boomerang'.
And as for the lighting, I set up a light rig just for the character. I used one spot light each for the key light, fill light, kicker light and rim light. And for the bounce light I used a volume light. And for the scene itself, I used an infinite light breaking its connection with the character but retaining its shadow link alone.
As for the sky in the background, I used a lambert shader with a simple ramp. Not much detail to the ground however, just a simple plane.
I finally took render passes and did the compositing and colour correction in After Effects.

I'm just beginning at Animation, there's a long way to go and I want to get there. So feedback and comments are always welcome. :)
