Yuso&Suso - Wine Label Packaging

This project was created for a national contest (“EtiquetaNews") and it made it to the top 10, between designs by around 500 design students from all over Spain! The brief asked for naming and graphic design for an organic wine of La Rioja.

The theme was free for the student to choose, and I wanted to pay homage to the region of La Rioja, a region in the north of Spain known by it's wonderful wine. Therefore I chose the name of Yuso&Suso, which are two parts of an important monastery in the region of La Rioja: San Millán de la Cogolla. The main intention was to show respect for the land and the origin of the wine with this landmark: its name and visual elements.

Following the brief, the winery had a moderns and a traditional side. Since the production is modern and high-tech, the label is clean and minimalist, with a decentralized white tablet, little text and plenty of negative space. At the same time, as this is an old family-owned company that works artisanally, a Serif typeface was used for a traditional touch. On the front label we have the monastery below highlighted by metallic inks. The figure of the monastery is cut out by a custom die that follows its shape.
Thanks for watching!
