Pantone 2021 Inspired Butterflies

Gray Hairstreak & Yellow Tailed Sulphur Butterflies
With the start of 2021 and a new year came a new color of the year. Each year Pantone Colors release the color they think will be popular in the year to come. Ultimate Gray and Illuminating Yellow, the shades were chosen for their warmth and dependability this year. “The selection of two independent colors highlight how different elements come together to express a message of strength and hopefulness that is both enduring and uplifting, conveying the idea that it’s not about one color or one person, it’s about more than one. The union of an enduring Ultimate Gray with the vibrant yellow Illuminating expresses a message of positivity supported by fortitude,” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said in a news release.

As a tribute to the new year and the fun vibrant colors that were selected I wanted to paint new butterflies to celebrate the year ahead. I picked the Yellow Tailed Sulphur and the Gray Hairstreak Butterflies as my subjects, coordinating closely with the pantone colors of the year. Apart they are beautiful but together they bring that warmth and stability that was spoken of. Wishing you all warmth and stability in your lives in 2021!
