Houston Airports System Website Design

Houston Airports System

I began work with the Houston Airports System to redesign their website while I was employed with Mouth Watering Media as a UI designer. The Houston Airports System team was aware that their website was dated and knew they were missing opportunities to engage with passengers.

At the time we were brought into the project, the HAS team had already worked with an agency to complete the new site’s wireframes, and wanted to stay within the timeline they had previously set. Because of this limited scope and timeline, we relied on research and knowledge that the HAS team brought to the project, including knowledge about strategy and user motivations.

I started the design process by taking the HAS team’s feedback into consideration and conducting my own research into other airport websites. I used a mobile-first design approach as I moved into sketching and ideation, and developed targeted passenger user journeys to ensure users could access relevant information quickly, including parking, security, and information about airport amenities. For example, users can either select their journey from the home screen, or immediately input their flight information and be categorized into a journey based on their flight’s data. With their flight data input into the website, users have access to specific parking and terminal security times, their flight status, and even dining and shopping options near their gate.

Although I wasn’t able to get access to user analytics after the project was completed (I had moved on to another opportunity), the website recently won the Best Airport Website and Digital Services at the 2019 Skytrax World Airport Awards.
