Washington is home to several top-rated golf courses, including both the South and North courses at Sahaelee Country Club in Sammamish. The course has been rated the state’s best by Golf Digest and No. 8 by Top 100 Golf Courses.

Sahalee is ranked No. 117 in the nation, according to Golf Digest, and was initially designed by Ted Robinson in 1969 and renovated by Rees Jones in 1996. The latter renovations were made in anticipation of the course hosting the 1998 PGA Championship, followed by the 2002 World Golf Championship. The course, situated among dense forests of cedar, spruce, fir, and pine, is known for its tall, narrow fairways. Sahalee has been a consistent top-200 course with Golf Digest dating back to 1977, peaking at No. 48 for the 1989-1990 season.

Other premier courses in the state of Washington include Chambers at University Place, the Aldarra course in Sammamish, and Gamble Sands. Both Chambers Bay and Gamble Sands offer public access.
