This is a very unique graphic piece for me because of how simple it looks, but at the same time of how complex and critical the thought process was for it. In this particular piece, the goal was to create a 6 month calendar using a poem, song lyric, passage from a book, etc., but at the same time without utilizing images or color. I enjoyed the challenge because, unfortunately at the time, I felt that in a few previous projects that both imagery and color were used as a crutch. That was a handicap I intended to remedy.

 

While utilizing a poem titled Natural Disaster, I kept the poem in the same location over time so that the changes would become more prominent. I cannot say as to where I had gotten the inspiration, only that I had the idea to turn one poem into another through simple fading and manipulation of text. Not only was this to show a metaphor of the destruction wrought by natural disasters, but to also manipulate the poem into a piece purely my own and one of greater impact in the end.
