ARTIST STATEMENT
My work is about self-growth. I look at my past, my present, and what my future would be to explain where I come, where I am and where I want to go. I want to show how my life has changed since I moved from Venezuela to Miami, while also showing how my culture has changed. My work is inspired by childhood pictures that I adapt to tell a story through. I utilize acrylic paint and collage mix media to achieve a realistic and abstract /surreal effect. The collage mix media adds layering and texture to the pieces creating balance with the paint. The reason why I paint myself as a child is because of my natural pose; also, I get inspired by like to use elements from my old pictures as an abstract form for the background. I want my art pieces to be narrative, yet they connect through the symbol of the butterflies. I relate to the butterfly's self-grown and the changes they go through. Ultimately, I want my work to tell a story, a narrative through the figures pose, facial expression, abstract elements, and color palette.
