DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY | Protests over gasoline price hikes, Monterrey, México. 2017
On Thursday, January 5, 2017 when, through social networks, several groups of people upset by the increase in gasoline prices decided to hold a "peaceful protest" in the streets of downtown Monterrey.
All was relatively calm, until a group of hooded young men began to create disorder among the protesters by throwing stones and bottles of gasoline at the government palace.
The destruction of cultural heritage was very costly, and as a result, the authorities began to safeguard the palace.
At the same time, those who protested peacefully were divided from those who only caused destruction.
Although my purpose was not to document such an event, I managed to capture some of the most emblematic moments of what began as a peaceful march.
Definitely a day to remember.
