Graphic Design Project 1 - Creative Strategies
For this project, I took a common household object, duct tape, and use 7 different creative design strategies.
For the combination design, I chose to combine duct tape with a picture of a bike. This strategy brings two unrelated objects together in a way that makes sense. I think that this image is successful because the tires are a circular shape and so is the duct tape. The title brings this image together in a great way.
The strategy of isolation highlights the differences of objects. This design is successful because the difference between sun and rain is highlighted, as well as the smoothness of the tape. The title really brings this design together because it is comparing the ability of the duct tape to stick in different weather conditions.
The strategy of isolation is physically separating different parts of the design. I think this is a successful design because I am separating the original duct tape and separating the colors of duct tape, as well as highlighting the original roll of tape.
The strategy of metaphor/simile is focused on the meaning of the image created with your object as it relates to something else. This design is successful because I am relating the roll of duct tape to the man. The title of this image really brings this design together because I focus on the relationship between the man and his best friend.
The change of context/environment strategy contrasts objects with unnatural or uncommon environments to highlight a concept or communicate an idea. We normally do not think of duct tape and bathrooms, so this design successfully changes the environment of the duct tape.
The strategy of physical shape similarity connects objects in a way that we do not think of. This design highlights the shape similarity between a dumbbell and a roll of tape. I think this is a successful design because the strength of the man is equal to the strength of the duct tape, and the title highlights this ability.
The strategy of a material swap is taking a part of the object that we are accustomed to and replacing it with another material. This is a successful design because we do not expect the inside of a roll of duct tape to be soup. We expect the inside of the roll to just be a hole on the counter.
