Submerge is a  performance that emerged as a result of Gülhatun Yıldırım’s seven days work at the performance workshop “Dissenting Bodies - Marking Time” at the Venice International Performance Art Week. With this work, the artist advances her research with the subjects she is currently working on.

This process the artist goes through, creates a space to examine many issues such as the body’s instructions, roots, boundaries and nothingness.

“What is the essence?” This question has an important role in the path tha artist followed both in her personal research and her practise. She begins the performance by first smudging the area with various herbs. Then she lights a candle in front of a large glass carafe full of water and prostrates in front of it for a while. The artist then carries the water and walks in the room. She pours some of it into the glasses drop by drop. When the performance approaches its 5th hour, she pours the water all over her body and draws a circle just walking the whole room and ending the performance.
