These photos were taken for a class called "Reading The Photographic Image". My original intention was to do portraits of drag/queer families. However, when New Zealand went into its first lockdown, I had to rethink my concept.

I wanted to convey the sense of isolation that had been created from the country going into lockdown. When I began shooting, my concept shifted and I decided I'd like to convey a post-apocalyptic world where the population had just disappeared (which is what it suddenly felt like).

I only shot in or close to my neighbourhood, to adhere to lockdown restrictions and make it more personal to me. Although I did quite a bit of shooting, I was quite selective about photos for the final "installation".
