My Chang’e - Personal work, 2020
I made this illustration for my friend’s 23 birthday back in November, 2020
I wanted to delineate two versions of one of her: an “at-home” buddy versus her “at-work” version
(left to right) There’re a few ideas when making some initial sketches. Then I decided to go with the first idea
Refined sketch
On the top of the shelf is me, her, and my partner. We’ve teamed up since the university time. Next is Bun /bu:n/, her cat. And what on the screen is also the three of us playing League to gether
The other half of the piece is where she works as a teacher of English at a center in Saigon. One month before her birthday, she was excited when she told us about she turning herself into Chang’e - Hằng Nga (Vietnamese name for Chang’e) - a well-known lady people talk about most during Mid-Fall Festival - Trung Thu (Vietnamese name) - at work. So I thought I would be fun if I draw her like that
