Natatorium Addition, Shrewsbury, Massachusetts
Frederick Soule was the Architect for an indoor swimming pool addition to a private residence. The design featured a 3,000 SF natatorium with large folding exterior doors which open along one side to a new courtyard which brings the outdoors in during the summer.
Design features include a vaulted ceiling with curved laminated beams, a 19’ x 37’ swimming pool, custom fountain and waterfall water features and an integral 8 person spa; full kitchen and wet bar, bathroom and an atrium link to the existing house. Mechanical systems include pool equipment, commercial dehumidification and HVAC equipment; an emergency generator and LED clerestory lighting features.

Mr. Soule coordinated design consultants for landscape architecture, structural engineering and pool mechanical systems. Mr. Soule was the team leader for the schematic design, design development, permitting, construction documents and construction administration phases. Mr. Soule moderated all design team and site meetings, observed the work while it was under construction and issued Construction Reports to the Building Inspectors in the Towns of Shrewsbury and Lancaster to comply with the Construction Control requirements of the State Building Code.
