Magazine Layout Design
This was my final project for my Introduction to Computer Graphics class, redesigning a magazine. I chose "Alternative Press" magazine, specifically their 5 Seconds of Summer issue, to base my design off of. I decided on this magazine since 5 Seconds of Summer is my favorite band and I enjoy reading Alternative Press magazine. Due to this magazine being only in print, I had to choose articles from other sources to include. These included Riff Magazine, MTV, and The Crimson. While I wasn't able to use articles explicitly from the magazine I chose, I kept similar design elements from the original magazine, including font, and the AltPress logo. I created the front and back cover, along with 4 full page spreads, a table of contents, and a photographic back page. I wanted to focus this "issue" on the band's 4th studio album, 'CALM,' which was released during the first major wave of the Coronavirus outbreak on March 27, 2020. In my first spread I chose an article about the album overall, and how important it was to be released when it was. My next spread is an interview between MTV News and lead guitarist, Michael Clifford, where he talks about how the stay-at-home orders, and the pandemic as a whole, have effected him, his band, and the music industry. My third spread includes an album review from Riff Magazine. My final spread is an article about the music video 5 Seconds of Summer shot while in quarantine, entirely on a green screen that went between each band member's home. In this spread I included screenshots from the music video, which was made for their song "Wildflower."
