Avenir Next was created in 1988 by Adrian Frutiger, a Swiss typeface designer. Avenir is french for “future” and has been considered one of the best typefaces by many designers around the world. It has been used in many different formats including advertisements, branding, and much more. Frutiger being a Swiss designer inspired me to treat the typographic elements within my book in Swiss style. For the imagery and other elements in the book, I chose to base the book on Wes Anderson’s “The Life Aquatic” one of my favorite films. Everything from the color palette used in the film, the attention to detail, to the metamodern characteristics within the movie pair together nicely with the bold colors and modern minimalistic feel of swiss design.
