Ohno Fatface Type Specimen Sheet

The Task
As facets for displaying and cataloguing the attributes and qualities of a type family, for this project I was tasked with utilizing a typeface from a type foundry to create a type specimen sheet or "mailer" that folds into four quandrants. The type specimen sheet, in effect, sporting two sides (an informational side and a more expressive side) as well as two color studies. The informational side showcases visual examples of four cases and weights in the family, a character set, a pangram, and a few sentences about the typeface. While the more expressive side showcases the character of the typeface through the use of abstraction and illustration.

The Typeface
"Ohno Fatface" designed by James Edmonson from the Ohno Type CO type foundry. I was very drawn to the typeface's striking contrast, it's incredibly versatile family, and it's very distinct personality.

The Design Process
Staying true to the visual language and history so ever present within the typeface, throughout my design I referenced the 70s era; references which present themselves in the form of graphic elements, terminology, themes specific to the time, and color.
