Flight of the Firefly

The Brief : Create a educational game (Edutainment) for a target audience of your choice. The game must teach them about a topic relevant to their age group.

I've decided to educate kids about fireflies. As a kid my love for animals and nature came from games and cartoons. I want to pass that on to the kids today. The firefly become my animal of choice because I grew up near a very famous firefly watching spot(Kampung Kuantan), and had many good memories there.
Design Process
The UI and main character went through a few variation. In the end I used the one that has the best contrast. This would make the design of character pop out more than the instruction panel. Making is more visually distinct.
One of the biggest design challenges was designing the firefly. I want it to be as accurate as possible to it's real life equivalent while still maintaining the cute and
cartoon-like thematic design of this game.
User Test
I actively seek out random strangers to test the game, as I find that they often give the most honest and constructive feedback.
Narration
I had a lot of fun writing and narrating all the dialogue in this game. I used Adobe Audition to adjust my original vocals to make it more cartoon like.
Flight of the Firefly - This game follows a young entomologist as he takes a trip to the mangrove forest for firefly watching. When his there, he realizes all the fireflies are gone. He needs your help to bring them back to the mangrove forest. He teaches kids about the life cycle of the firefly and what threats they face at each stage. You will have to complete a mini-game each stage to hep bring the fireflies back into the mangrove forest.
This game was design for kids from the age of 6 to 8. It aims to teach them the life cycle of the firefly. It shows them what dangers they face at each stage of its life cycle. From an egg, to a larva, to a pupa, and finally an firefly.
