Late Renaissance, Early Elizabethan Wedding Gown
I designed and constructed this piece for character Leonora D’Este, the first wife of Gesualdo in the film.
In construction, I adapted "Period Patterns no. 56" for the bodice and inner-sleeves. On the silk inner-sleeves, I bead embroidered pearls and stripes of lace for additional ornamentation.
For the foundation garments, I drafted an stitched a fully-boned Elizabethan corset, and built a cartwheel farthingale for the appropriate skirt silhouette. I draped the skirts, false-sleeves, and hat.
