I produced a series of postcards in which I designed and created a full alphabet of illustrated type, manipulating an existing typeface. I used the tried and trusted Helvetica as the basis for this design, exploiting its Swiss heritage (Helvetian = Helvetica) to create a series of alpine-related illustrated letterforms, also transferring these to postcards.
Traditional swiss letterforms are manipulated into a variety of typographic illustrations that resonate with the theme, from mountains, chalets and double black diamond ski runs to gondola lifts, ski stocks, avalanches and igloos.
The illustration style uses simple geometric shapes to reconnect with Swiss design archetypes, yet the final illustrations have accrued a patina, making the final outcome more emblematic of my own personal design style.
