The amount of heat that is given off is controlled by increasing or decreasing the exposed surface area
of the radiating metal plates. These are the orange rippled surfaces in the center.
Sketches and Models
The metal plates heat up inside the body where the heating elements are located. Once they reach the desired temperature, they rise up away from the heating elements, blooming out (increasing the exposed suraface area) and slowly giving off the stored heat to the user. Once the heat has been released the plates retreat back into the body to warm again and the cycle repeats.
