Trading Spaces Consumer Products & Branding

Trading Spaces was a TV show where neighbors redecorated a room in each other’s homes in two days with $1000. 

I was responsible for the design direction of the licensed product line for mass market. I established the look and feel of brand, designed home décor packaging, ‘tween packaging, style guides, marketing materials, and retail signage. I oversaw product development in categories including home décor, publishing, games, DVDs, paint, and crafts equating to approximately $170 million in retail sales. Trading Spaces dollhouse received “Top Toy of the Year” by Creative Child Magazine and “Parent’s Choice Award” in 2004.

Craft dollhouse: Children were able customize fabric, furniture and walls with paint, stamps, stencils and stickers to decorate the interior and exterior of their own dollhouse. The paints wiped clean, stickers were removable, and the floors and walls were reversible allowing the house to be designed and redesigned over and over again. Trading Spaces dollhouse received “Top Toy of the Year” by Creative Child Magazine and a “Parent’s Choice Award."

Trading Spaces Design Companion was software designed to help users design their living space from the ground up. They could enter room dimensions, position electrical and plumbing fixtures, choose from 1000s of fabrics, colors, furniture styles, and fixtures, and have a 3D view at each step of creation. Once finished, users could print out plans, materials lists, and get money-saving advice.
