The brief for this piece of work was to take an already existed 3Ds Max Corona scene and transfer it into the Unreal Engine, to not only test the capability's of the Engine, but also to test out and implement VR into it. The final outcome had to be as photo realistic as possible.
A lot of the textures/materials from the original max scene had to be either reworked or made from scratch to be used as PBR materials in Unreal. The way I achieved this was to recreate them within substance designer and suite. I had the Max files, which included the original wood texture, so it was a matter of translating that into something workable. I also had to match the reflectivity by producing new Roughness maps. 

This is the process I had to do for a good 90% of the scenes materials.

The next big challenge was mapping. For the unreal engine to effectively build Lightmaps, to build the scenes GI and overall scene correctly. each model within the scene should have appropriate UV maps created. Since this was a scene coming from Max and was never intended for Unreal, a lot of the models had to be UV'd by hand, which I had the pleasure to do...

Building the lighting was a case of trial and error. The main issue was having the light build quality transfer across into VR, a lot of the time it'd look amazing on the screen but in VR it didn't match up. Luckily, after a fair few Lightbuild's and a mountain of coffee and patience it turned out.

​​​​​​​The Project itself was so fun to work on and I'd love to be able to pick something like this up again in the Future. Especially now that the age of VR has drastically improved over the years since this Project was made.
