One way to decrease the lifecycle impact of a product is to use a single material for its construction. This allows for low impact manufacturing, lightweight transport, and efficient reintroduction into material streams at the end of its usable life. Many traditional peelers have a plastic handle which makes careful disassembly a requirement for recycling. Older peelers are all metal, but are not as nice to use and require highly technical assembly techniques.
