2020 has proven to be an eye-opening year for many Americans. Cameras and live video have brought a reframing of many long standing wounds our country and its citizens have faced. Harvard University Press with the help of Anette Gordon-Reed put together a series of works, spanning the last 30 years, that help in providing an understanding to some of the issues that have become relevant this year especially.
The HUP team enlisted my help in creating a cover for the reader. I worked to craft a cover that was loosely inspired by the protest posters and signage that many Americans have used this year, and in years past, to voice their frustrations with the broken systems that they encounter everyday. With raw texture, and bold letterforms, this cover reflects much of the emotion stewing in our people.
