States Coffee
Brand Identity

Opened in 2015 in the small Bay Area town of Martinez, CA, States Coffee serves as the beacon for this community’s fresh start. With an emphasis on neighborly roasted coffee and American made goods, States brings a sophisticated, yet casual stop for locals and visitors alike.

The owner of States approached me in 2015 seeking a piece of personal work to use as apart of their brand. That piece later influenced a brand system and full catalog of design elements for this flourishing shop. The States team had a very clear vision and entrusted me to bring that work and vision to life.
The logo system was created to feel like it has always existed. Timeless and classic. Almost as if they’d found the old neon signage in a scrap yard and decided to run with it. The system needed to lay solid foundation for the brand while allowing space and flexibility for the brand to evolve and expand.

I created a system that laid a solid foundation for the brand to evolve and expand, as well as a series of assets that give this unique coffee shop a distinct voice.
The success of States Coffee has led to three building expansions and Farm & Flour, a farm-to-table concept in a neighboring town. Additionally, the partners of these two shops, have a third concept in the works, that will marry the two brands together.
