7 Creative Strategies

Our task for this project was to pick an everyday object and transform it in a creative way using seven different creative strategies. The strategies we have been asked to study and apply are: combination, juxtaposition, isolation, metaphor or simile, change of context or environment, physical/shape similarity, and a material change, swap, or focus. We were encouraged to pick an everyday object that serves a purpose. I chose a #2 pencil to become my symbol/icon for the duration of the project. Using illustrator and photoshop I transformed my object into a series of seven professional images that is fit for advertisement.
The combination of the wood from the pencil successfully combines with the wood of a barstool. They share a common medium as well as shape.
This image helps you notice the similarity in shapes the tip of a pencil can have items you wouldn’t normally think of like a mustard bottle.
The image communicates that pencils are where ideas and blueprints for architecture begins. Pencils depict creation and finished architecture is the result of that creation.
The pencil stands out next to a bunch of pens and is similar enough to fit it but different enough to stand out and be clearly isolated.
The similarity of a toothpick and pencil is depicted, but when placed in a different context it highlights the pencil and makes you think about its use in a different way.
The idea of old school to new school with the pencil and iPad really shows how different the two are while highlighting the pencil as the object.
This image communicates the idea of a hard stiff pencil changed with flowing paint. It depicts the same message of a pencil, but through a different material.
