For this project my Mad-Lib was, "This piece is going to feature funky Polar bears dancing disco in a tundra." Because I felt this was a pretty odd topic, I wanted to give it a silly but relaxing background to fit the theme. I started off by finding a picture of mountains and turning it into a brush, then I put in a picture of the sky from the show Spongebob to help me get started on creating my own version of it.
To create a sky for my piece I started off with a gradient of sunset colors going from light to dark. Then I made a brush out of the flowers from Spongebob and pasted it several times while changing the color and rotating the brush to add variety.
I then proceeded to make brushes out of 4 different Polar bears, an afro, sunglasses and a Disco ball. I also added a reflection behind each flower in the sky.
After making all of my brushes, I started to put my piece together. I used a cool blue color for my mountain landscape so I could keep the winter feel of the photo. I used pink and purple for my disco ball to give it a 70's themed look. I placed each of the bears in and used multiple colors on all of them to make them unique, and I gave them shadows.
To finish off my piece I darkened the sky using the Burn tool, added the final bear with a shadow and added different colored lights bouncing off of the Disco Ball using a low opacity brush.
For this project I changed my Mad-Lib several times due to wanting to fully capture my idea. My final version of the Mad-Lib was " This piece is going to have a busy city using a camera in an old western town." Before I changed this, I made a brush out of a camera and found a picture of a city that I later turned into a brush.
I soon realized I wanted the background to be different from what was inside of the camera, which is what inspired me to change my Mad-Lib.
At this point I made my changes and now was on to my real project. I made another brush of a camera that I felt fit the image better and pasted it as a dark grey color. Next I made a brush out of an old western town and used a dusty color to give it a deserted and desolate feeling.
Next, I pasted the brush that I made from a section of the city into the camera and used one of the colors from the color palette in the top right corner.
I thought it would be interesting to give it a 3D look so I cut the camera frame into fourths, then I pasted each color in their designated zones that I assigned to them.
To finish it off, I thought it looked too bright as it was so I inverted the background to be black so that it would contrast the pale and dusty look of the city. I also used a low opacity eraser over the camera buttons to make them have a dustier color.
For my final piece, my Mad-Lib was, "This piece is going to have astronauts playing soccer in outer space." I started off by creating a brush out of a picture of outer space and pasted it as black so that when I used other brighter colors they would be visible.
After a while of tinkering with different colors, I felt I had a decent background to where I could start on the rest of my project, but I would later go on to change it.
My next step was to create the rest of my brushes. I made 2 brushes out of astronauts, one of a soccer ball and one of a soccer goal.
After creating the brushes, I began to formulate my piece. I inserted the soccer goal with multiple colors in an uneven fashion to give it a 3D appearance. Next, using a green to black color palette I pasted in the first astronaut. I used these colors to make it show that he was fading away. I also made changes to the background, giving it a yellow glow in the middle.
To finish off my piece I inserted the other astronaut and the soccer ball, as well as giving a shadow to the first astronaut. I used a light red to light blue color scheme on the astronaut, and sampled 5 different colors on the soccer ball while rotating the brush each time I pasted it to show its movement through space.
