maybe it was hundreds
maybe it was more
not even glimpsing
what I hungered for

and found

salt marsh cradling
alchemical miracle

color spilling
seeping spreading
like fresh paint

mere steps away from
an ice cream stand

crowd bathed in a flood of

incandescent
fluorescent
sodium vapor

lights casting
unearthly hues

artificial colors
concocted tastes
swirling in plastic
cups and cones

unseeing unfolding
diaphanous drama

veil parting briefly
between mundanity
and eternity

vanishing as fast
as half-eaten
frozen treats

melting
discarded
thrown away

the chance to see
inscrutable truth

seeking i saw the
other side briefly
where beauty reigns

making a deeper connection
waking to unseen possibilities
shaking in the revelation
Where Beauty Reigns
