Looking at your photographs often and unexpectedly can teach you many things.You can realise easier whether there's value in a photograph or whether there's just emotional attachment to it. There’s more chance to understand what works in composition and what does not. You can much easily spot irritating glitches and hopefully correct them so they can start work for the pleasure of the eye. It allows you to understand and spend more time thinking for what you should be careful during shooting times... and probably many more.
 
This works only for certain class of photographs though. They need to be in special size format in order to be viewable in most displays -- all my photos below are 2:3 dimension ratio. I also prefer them to have no more than three main colours, often less is better. It is also important that desktop photos are not noisy and have some negative space so you can easily find documents which might be spread over them.
