For the first project of the Mad- Lib I wanted to create koalas in the city taking photos with cameras. I started by place embedding a picture of city buildings and then quick selected the areas I didn't want out of the photo. Then in order to make the image into a brush, I used the marquee tool to drag a rectangle over the image. Then I clicked edit and define brush preset. I added a new layer and decided to change the color of the brush to pink. Then because I wanted the city to be pink and blue I added another layer and did a blue brush. To mix them together, I added the "lighter color" filter on the blue layer.
I found a photo of a koala holding a camera and place embedded it. Then I made it into a brush the same way I did with the background. I stacked a white and a black layer of the brush and I layer masked each brush layer of the koala so I could take out the background from the original brush preset. I also made the two layers into a group so I could move the koala around.
I added another Koala by place embedding a photo and making it a brush, like I had done before. Then I made a brush out of a picture of a bench and decided to make both koalas smaller and place them onto the bench. I also decided to make the bench white so it fit well with the background.
I decided that there was too much empty space up at the top by the buildings so I took a photo of some clouds and made it a brush. I chose a very light blue color. Then, I decided I wanted a camera on a tripod so I could have a koala interacting with it in someway. I chose a photo of a camera on a tripod, made it into a brush, and chose purple for the color.
First, I added a layer mask to the clouds layer and used the brush to remove the areas where the cloud brush covered the buildings. Then, I made another koala brush and put it by the camera in order to make it look like the koala was using the camera with the tripod. I then decided I wanted to add a studio chair, so I made a brush out of a photo of one. I used a light purple for the chair brush on one layer and the a darker purple on another layer. In order to blend the two shades of purple I added the "pass through" filter on the top "chair" layer.
I made another brush out of another photo of a koala and put it next to the tripod. I also made a brush out of a photo of a camera bag and placed that by the chair using the black color.
Finally, I made a brush out of another photo of a koala and put it in the purple chair. I used a white brush of that koala on one layer, a gray brush on another layer, and a black one on another layer and put all three layers in a group using command G.
This is the final piece for the koalas using cameras in the city.
The next project for the mad lib that I wanted to do was squirrels roasting marshmallows by the campfire. So to make the background, I made a brush out of a campfire photo that I found off of the internet. I made one layer an orange brush of the campfire and one layer a yellow brush. I put the yellow layer on top of the orange one and applied the "darken" filter. Then I added a black brush of the campfire on top of both the orange and yellow layer. I did this so only the fire would have color and stand out. For the first squirrel, I made a brush out of a photo I found off of the internet of a squirrel holding a stick with a marshmallow on it. I used a very light orange brush for the squirrel brush on one layer and then a black brush of the squirrel on top of the orange layer. I then added the "overlay" filter to help blend the light orange and black together.
I found another photo of a squirrel and made that into a brush. I used a black color when I used this squirrel brush. I cleaned this layer up a little to blend it more into the background by applying a layer mask and using the brush tool. I also cleaned up the other squirrel using that method.
I found a photo of a marshmallow on a stick and made it into a brush. I used the brush I made in a black color on one layer and on a layer on top of it I used the brush in white. Then I applied the "overlay" filter on the top (white) layer to help blend the two colors.
This is how the squirrels roasting marshmallows by the campfire turned out.
For the final mad lib piece I wanted to do giant cats playing hockey on a hockey rink. For the background I made a brush out of a hockey rink photo and used it in black on one layer. On another layer I used it in light purple and added the "Vivid Light" filter to mix the colors.
I found 2 different photos of cats playing hockey and made brushes out of each of them. I started with white brush colors on both of them and then a gray on top.
I found another cat image and made a brush out of it as well. For the third cat I did the same as the past two: a white color of the brush followed by a dark grey on top. I wanted to add some more color to the cats so I added a layer of color (purple, orange, and blue) with each cat brush below the white and dark grey layer of each cat.
Here is the final piece of giant cats playing hockey on a hockey rink.
