During my years as the in-house designer with For Rent Media Solutions, publisher of For Rent Magazine® and its Spanish-translated Apartamentos Para Rentar®, one of the projects I had the privilege to lead was the design of this special event invitation. Apartamentos Para Rentar was a new product line for the magazine, a response Orlando's growing Hispanic community. Industry professionals, however, needed to be convinced through demographics education that the Spanish language publication was a worthwhile investment.
To that end, industry professionals were invited to a luncheon hosted by the magazine at Cuban-themed Samba Room Restaurant & Lounge. Inspired by the culture itself, this invitation was designed, then hand assembled, coupling parchment, vellum and a handcut palm frond. It was meant to evoke fantasies of humid evenings, hand-rolled cigars, salty air and swaying palms. And it worked—the luncheon was well-attended by multifamily decision-makers eager to learn how to get their product before Spanish-speaking apartment seekers.
