This project was initiated by a store in Sweden, Stockholm called Frank Form and an opportunity to create a clothing I had been thinking about for a while that was aimed at both women and men. The clothing I had in mind was something warm for the cold climate of Sweden and the north. I also wanted to take inspiration from shawls people use to cover their heads. A shawl is common in many cultures and have many different uses. From hijab to babushkas (most common in Russia) and Nomad people living in the Sahara desert it is a very common clothing that has varied purposes.

The clothing is made with wool jersey which is a natural material that is used as an outer protective shield for the body. In the process I gathered inspiration in the form of a moodboard and made several mock up models in all kinds of fabric to find the best material and shape.

The name Shelma is derived from the celtic meaning of the word (also a place in Scotland) and has a varied meaning. It means ”beautiful view” but also ”helmet” and ”protection”.
