Dispatches from Alternate Futures

Dispatches from Alternate Futures: Exploratory Scenarios for Greater Philadelphia examines four plausible future scenarios based on different directions that technology, climate change, and rising inequality could take. It was developed with the Futures Working Group, a collaborative, multidisciplinary group of subject matter experts and interested stakeholders, and will help inform the vision and strategy development for the Connections 2050 Long-Range Plan.

The design of this piece was a team collaboration consisting of all four DVRPC in-house graphic designers producing an 88-page magazine-style publication. Playing to each designer's strengths, we used InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop for page layout, illustration, icon design, charts, photo-editing/manipulation, and more. We collaborated using Adobe Creative Cloud for teams. In addition to a print publication, we also created one that was animated and interactive using InDesign's Publish Online feature. This project, which was innovative for DVRPC, received much praise.
