Looking into the empty Kilbirnie bus terminal as a possible urban development, the project focused on designing a mix-use development that accommodated the surrounding users. The design acted to bring retail shoppers down into the area and provide more social spaces for the surrounding residential housing. The use of multi-level buildings and underground parking provided better use of space and a better visual link to the neighbouring tall retirement home. The current large empty concrete wall covered by climbers to provide a more visually interesting street environment, while the new open spaces linked up with the existing walk/cycle way.
