Lake Wairarapa - Undergrad (3rd Year)

This project has a strong link with Wairarapa iwi and implication of cultural values in landscape architecture. As a class, we spent a few days on Kohunui marae learning local stories and gathering insight into the landscape around lake Wairarapa. Moving into group work we built a regional framework around specific Māori values in relation to sites around the lake. Choosing a specific site each, we then individually came up with a design that incorporate the group framework. My design, area at the top of the lake, had a focus on telling local stories through the views and landscape surrounding you, as you journey through the site. each area exploring different views and stories/values. The secondary effect of the design was to also provide greater water quality from run-off from the neighbouring farmland. While also having wetlands integrated into the edge of the lake.
