Gotham Glyph Design and 911 Tribute Brochure.

A five fold brochure that displays a set of uppercase and lowercase glyphs I created for the typeface Gotham. Tobias Frere-Jones was heavy influenced by what he called "Vernacular Typography" that littered the streets of New York. This signage would soon influence the typeface Gotham. Two of the most notable use of Gotham are in Barack Obama's 2008 hope campaign and Freedom Towers where the names of those who were lost during the 911 terror attack are inscribed in stone set in Gotham. I have incorporated both of these uses into my design using well known buildings from New York with the World Trade Center being front and center. The names of those lost are set behind the type as well as the floor and tower they worked in.
Each page of the inside spread displays a quote that speaks on; courage, love, bravery or perseverance. As a way of honoring the brave men and women lost as well as those that seek positive change that give us all hope. Inlayed in these quotes are the glyphs I have created to show how well they blend with the typeface.
The back of the brochure displays the cornerstone of Obama's 2008 campaign, "Hope".
Rising up above the skyline of New York while also being a calm reminder of what Obama promised in 2008.
