The Generative Grid

Grid systems are the base architecture for almost all modern typographic, graphic, and hierarchical designs. The use of grid systems can be as basic as a 5x5 grid, or as complex as a grid filled with organic shapes and intruding patterns. These grid systems were designed to be used in conjunction with the basic box grid system. These linear, adaptable, and multifaceted grids can generate two or more basic grid systems from one. This means that if a particular layout needs a 6x6 grid, but the next page needs a 4x8 grid, they can both be achieved by utilizing a single linear grid. To put it simply, its two grids for the price of one. This also allows one to connect two types of seemingly unconnected grids together in a harmonious and dynamic layout.
