The objective of this research, and from a designer’s point of view, is to enhance sustainable outcomes and serve different purposes, by focusing on an innovative design process called transformable design. Denim transformable garment made in a manner that can change appearances easily may encourage consumers to buy fewer clothing items, given its versatility and denim being the evergreen classic in the fashion cycle. The denim transformable garment can have a long lifetime, as consumers need only dispose of or replace worn-out parts. This also allows consumers to buy a basic garment shape, choose and separately purchase different component pieces they like, and design the finished piece as suits their needs at the moment. Through this project, I mean to demonstrate how transformable fashion design in denim can significantly reduce fabric waste, extend garment life and more directly engage and involve consumers in sustainability practices.
