Out of all the illustrations I've done so far, this was the most labor intensive one BY FAR. It's not even close. I started this project in...maybe November of 2019. At first I was doing 30 minutes up to 3 hours on and up until spring of this year. Then in April, I decided to step it up because I had -- *have -- other projects I wanted to get to and it was taking way longer than I expected. Since April up until I finished it a few days ago, I worked on it for 5 hours daily. I can safely say that this project took more than 600 hours to finish...
...And this is why. As the project progressed, I went into more and more detail until it got to the point where I was drawing almost every pixel of the original image. That's why it looks a grid in some areas. You can probably follow my workflow, seeing which section I moved to next after finishing one, by following that pattern.

Even though I was getting frustrated along the way, debating on whether to just return to making more solid shapes with less detail, I'm glad I kept with it. Because ultimately, I believe this project sharpened my skills in more ways than one. I've done two projects since this one and they've felt like an absolute BREEZE compared to this.

All in all, for a half a year of work, I couldn't be more hyped on the result.
