Now You See Her - Major Project (Part two)
Women in magic have been side-lined and branded as the “glamorous assistant” for centuries - their abilities as performers and magicians having largely gone unacknowledged. There is a lack of visible diversity in the magic community, and with this project, I hoped to change that.
“Now You See Her” aims to highlight these forgotten and overlooked women, both past and present, and showcases their lives and work through a travelling exhibition.
Meet The Magicians - Fay Presto
An insight into the legendary Fay Presto; the UK’s most in-demand close-up and cabaret magician who would rather die on stage than quit performing. Influencing hundreds of magicians and making way for women in the magic world, Fay’s humour and brilliance has led her to the title of “Queen of Close Up”. This pack of cards serves to reflect on Fay’s life growing up, her struggles with identity and gender roles, tackling inequality and showcasing her amazing magic career.
I decided to use a deck of cards to share her story as cards were a formative part of close up magic, and are an interactive piece of media that allows the user to go through the story at their own pace.
